Blackmore Vale Vets Centre – Sturminster Newton

Nurse Clinics and Puppy Parties

We have a team of nurses both qualified and student.  Our nurses are involved in a wide range of tasks from serving clients in the reception to monitoring anaesthetics.  They care for the in-patients and assist with surgical and medical procedures, as well as assisting the duty vet with emergencies day or night.  Together with our kennel assistant they keep the practice clean and organised.

An important part of the job is to offer daily nurse clinics to clients.  Some of the treatments available are listed below:

Puppy Parties.

Our Puppy parties are designed to be both fun and informative for you and your puppy!

They are designed as a first step towards training, so are not a substitute for Puppy school.  We look at them as a one off playgroup for puppies!

What’s in it for your puppy?

  • A chance to socialise with other puppies of their own age in a safe environment
  •  They can learn that the vets’ is not a scary place, but actually quite friendly!
  • An opportunity to have a fun afternoon playing with other puppies
  • They can become used to being handled by other people
  • A chance to see you handle another dog
  • They can learn how to be handled for a health check
  • They get to take home a FREE Kong puppy toy and goodie bag!

What’s in it for you humans?

  • A chance to start your puppies socialisation training
  • You can ask any questions that you may not have previously asked in the veterinary consultation.
  • You learn how to do a basic health check on your puppy, and can therefore quickly pick up on any problems.
  • We can give you advice on neutering, worming, flea control, insurance, pet health plans and answer any other questions that you may have.
  • We are able to give you basic behaviour advice
  • Nutritional advice for each individual puppy
  • Chance to see your puppy interacting with other dogs
  • Chance to spend time cuddling puppies!
  • Goodie bag with money off coupons!

Most of our clients that have attended one of our puppy parties find that their dog cannot wait to come into the practice again!

What does a puppy party entail?

Our parties take place every 6 weeks at the practice in the afternoon and costs £5 per puppy.  Each party is slightly different depending on the needs of the puppies but includes:

  • Meet and greet
  • Pass the puppy game
  • Puppy playtime
  • Health check

  • Advice on Microchipping – show a microchip
  • Puppy playtime

The parties are informal and held by the nurses.  We have a maximum number of 5 puppies per party.  If we find we do not have many puppies that month we will introduce you to some of the staff dogs who are more than happy to come and play!

The party lasts for about 1 hour and booking is required.
